Stephanie McBurrough
Stephanie McBurrough is a Registered Nurse who will graduate in May with a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner from Augusta University. She graduated with her MSN with a concentration in Clinical Nurse Leader from Augusta University in 2012. She currently works as a part-time clinical nurse at Atrium Health Navicent (AHN) in Macon, GA. She has nine years of nursing experience, which have been at AHN and other organizations as well. She has worked on a medical-cardiology unit as a clinical nurse throughout this time and previously served as the unit’s clinical nurse educator for 4 ½ years, thereby allowing her to care for individuals with cardiac diagnoses and other medical-surgical diagnoses such as diabetes, gastrointestinal bleeding, and COPD, to name a few. During this time, she acquired a certification in Cardiac-Vascular Nursing. She has also worked on an ortho-surgical unit and has been a part-time clinical instructor for the BSN program at Middle Georgia State University for five years.
Although Stephanie has experience working with patients with cardiac diagnoses, she chose a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner because of her desire to work in primary care within the rural community after completing the DNP-FNP program. During a summer clinical at MedLink Winder, her passion was confirmed. She truly enjoyed her time and experience there and learned about the NoGAPP Residency. She completed the remaining clinicals in rural areas, which stemmed her passion even more. She was excited when she discovered that Community Health Care Systems, Inc. (CHCS) had been added to the NoGAPP residency, including clinics in the middle Georgia area where she resides. She is extremely humbled and grateful to be a candidate for the 2022 Residency cohort. She looks forward to improving and enhancing her knowledge and skills to provide the highest quality of individuals in the communities which CHCS serves.
Stephanie grew up in Valdosta, GA, and during her childhood, she would ride with her parents to check on her grandmother, who lived in rural Florida near the Georgia-Florida line. At least one weekend day several times a month or one week during the summer was spent at her grandmother’s house. She remembers times spent there and other times when she went to family gatherings in rural towns throughout Georgia and Florida. These experiences were planted within her and have been the root of her desire to work within rural communities.
Stephanie currently resides in Perry, GA. She has lived in middle Georgia since graduating from Fort Valley State University in 2006, excluding the year and a half spent in Augusta for the MSN program. She enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys watching movies, cooking, and traveling in her free time.
