Giselle Campos
Giselle Campos has always been drawn to serve, even at an early age. As a little girl, Giselle would run and grab the band-aids to make sure she cared for her dad’s minor cuts after his baseball games. Giselle, still being that little girl at heart, now educated in nursing from Emory; as well as strengthened by her experiences in the Peace Corps found her passion and began her journey in community health.
Giselle did not take the traditional route into nursing. First, she was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Central Florida in 2013. She then found her calling over 9,000 miles away from her home in Miami, FL in 2014 when she joined the United States Peace Corps. As a community health educator in a rural Cambodian village, Giselle worked with health care providers, mainly nurses, to educate over 29,000 people. She taught about sexual and reproductive health, child and maternal health, occupational health, and sanitation/hygiene. Giselle’s three years serving in Peace Corps Cambodia were both formative and inspirational as Giselle learned how influential nurses and nursing is to the quality of a community’s health.
Before starting her accelerated MSN degree at Emory University in 2019, Giselle worked as an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist for a medical manufacturing company. Within this role, Giselle wore many hats. The most important was managing the site’s chemical waste program, performing worksite ergonomic modifications, and overseeing workmen’s comp cases and investigations. Giselle learned a lot about occupational health, specifically the ability to look at a worksite and analyze how it can be modified to better suit the individual.
Giselle was awarded her Master of Science in Nursing degree as a Family Nurse Practioner at Emory University in 2021. During her time at Emory, she was awarded many accolades including the Veterans Affairs Nursing Academic Partnership in Graduate Education fellowship, Emory School of Nursing Award of Excellence, and she is a Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing member. During her master’s program, she worked as a registered nurse in mental health research programs and a pediatric residential psychiatric facility. Additionally, Giselle can speak Spanish and Khmer conversationally. Giselle is most excited to learn about the communities she will serve as a primary care provider with the North Georgia Advanced Practice Program, and she cannot wait to get started as a resident with East Georgia Healthcare Systems.
